MVP design for Car VX Europe

Desktop & mobile responsive design for the Vehicle History Reports web service

Highlights

Context

Car VX was planning to launch a new service providing vehicle history reports in the highly competitive European market.

Objective

My task was to convert business and performance goals into intuitive, conversion-driven designs. I was responsible for creating and optimizing user flow scenarios, as well as designing the responsive website and user profile panel. Additional task was to create a scalable vehicle history report template and a set of marketing materials.

Execution

I determined the overall scope of the project by collecting the various requirements of my clients. That helped me identify the product's goals, business context, and user needs. I studied and analyzed the competitors, which helped me identify common user flow scenarios. Later, we finalized them together with my clients using the JBT method.

I created a basic UI kit to speed up the process and start designing in high-fidelity skipping the wireframes stage. I collaborated with front-end and backend engineers to ensure that design solutions were feasible and could be effectively implemented.

The main use case scenario was searching for and purchasing a vehicle history report. I designed an intuitive end-to-end experience for users to help them go smoothly through this process.

I suggested making the search form accessible from any page on the site. We have conducted several internal usability tests to ensure that this solution works.

I also consulted with the development team to ensure that all form states are present in the design system.

The loading screen helps users understand what is happening during the search. This helps reduce anxiety and cognitive overload.

I designed all the necessary states for the report purchase page and made sure the responsive view would follow the best practices for the smooth mobile experience.

The main product is the final report on the vehicle's history. I designed templates for the report and prepared more than 20 sections covering various aspects of the vehicle's usage history. The challenge was to make it flexible enough for future improvements and support for multiple languages.

A large part of the work involved designing pages for the user's account. The profile section includes a dashboard, list of purchased reports, invoice history and some other features. I have designed numerous layouts ensuring clarity and consistency. Using common UX patterns for desktop and mobile allowed us to significantly accelerate and simplify development.

I designed multiple component sets and prepared a basic documentation for those, which simplified communication with the development team. The simple design system contained a set of different states for each element.

Outcome

I was able to identify opportunities and translate requirements into intuitive, effective design solutions and create end-to-end product experiences for B2B and B2C users. I tried to validate each design decision and iterate based on my client's feedback.

In a relatively short period of time, I created a scalable MVP design and compact UI kit that could easily evolve into fully functional cross-platform design system.
